States of ecstasy have been reached through dance by many endogenous and ancestral tribes at gatherings all over the world, for as long as humans have got together.  Birthdays, weddings, funerals, rites of passage have been celebrated with dance and often the dance has taken on a spiritual dimension. Often the only place we get to dance these days is at one such event or late at night in a club.

On these Ecstatic Saturdays we will dance for the pure joy of moving in whatever way we feel.  I will mix music that will move us through from beginning middle to end, staying embodied and conscious as best we can within the group. this is a journey and I really ask people to stay to the end and rest when they need to. There is no alcohol, no drugs, no cacao, no need for anything more than the dance. (bring lots of water to drink)

Ecstatic dance was originated by Gabrielle Roth in the 80s as she created the 5Rhythms maps. Gabrielle integrated a wide range of influences, including shamanism, ecstatic and mystical traditions, Eastern philosophy, and transpersonal psychology, to create the philosophy and maps that underpin the 5Rhythms practice. As a 5Rhythms teacher/spaceholder, I have years of experience in holding a space that has structure and safety. The music is eclectic with an occasional bent to 90s rave which is where I found my dance in the clubs Ibiza and later of London. 30 years teaching yoga has informed me of the value of work with breath and somatic movement and mindfulness. Great teachers in my life have taught me how to stay present and how to open the doors to freedom.

So come along , with friends or just you and be part of this great community.
